GA from RVT to LVT in 2018

Did you know, here in Georgia we are LICENSED veterinary technicians and NOT registered veterinary technicians? The official legal title was changed in 2018 to align veterinary technicians with licensed veterinarians.

Every veterinary technician should strive to provide the best possible quality of care and the highest standard of medicine - with a great title comes great responsibility, and we hold ourselves to those aspirations and expectations.

On the topic of titles, some states have different legal definitions of "licensed veterinary technician", "registered veterinary technician", "credentialed veterinary technicians", among others. In Georgia, "Veterinary Technician" is a protected title defined as "a licensed person who engages in the practice of veterinary technology and on the basis of his or her qualifications is validly and currently licensed by the board for such purpose" by the Georgia Veterinary Practice Act (https://gvma.net/georgia-veterinary-practice-act/). This applies only to Georgia, and every state has their own legal definition of titles.

Be proud to operate under your very own license, take ownership! Happy Veterinary Technician week
