Spotlight: Anna Santos, LVT

Today we're sharing an extra special spotlight. Anna Santos, LVT, is the lab animal health tech supervisor in the office of research at the University of Georgia. Anna is a long standing executive board member of GVTAA in various roles, is the Committee Vice-Chair for NAVTA's District Representative Committee, and is part of NAVTA's Membership Committee. Anna will be stepping away from GVTAA to focus on leading our industry in other ways, and we miss her already.

Normally we ask our spotlightees about themselves, but today we're going to tell you about Anna. From our Vice President, Jamie, "Anna has been a member of the GVTAA for over 2 decades. In that time, she has helped to foster the growth and professional development of a multitude of credentialed veterinary technicians and assistants, with a few DVMs included. She has always advocated for our profession and is more than willing to share her personal experiences in her own journey to help others. From using her leadership skills to help our technicians on a legislative level to holding the hands of those that just need to talk to someone, Anna has always made herself available in other's time of need. On a personal level, Anna is one of my closest friends. She is always there for me, even if it is just to have a vent session. She has helped me to continue to develop my career over the years and has always supported each and every idea I have come up with, no matter how far fetched."

She was interviewed by the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine (https://research.uga.edu/news/work-like-a-dog-anna-santos-bridging-gap-for-police-canine-care/), who shared "for 25 years, Anna Santos has been a vital part of the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where she has made it her mission of both caring for animals and educating those who care for them. We are proud to have her on our team, where she excels in working with various animals, with a particular passion for working dogs." She has since organized several events with local police dogs (https://mag.vet.uga.edu/article/vet-nurse-teaches-police-fbi-to-care-for-k-9-officers/). Not to mention she graduated with a masters in public health over the summer ❤

Anna has also written for Today's Veterinary Nurse (https://todaysveterinarynurse.com/authors/anna-santos/) where she shared & discussed 5 tips for leading a balanced life.

Anna has touched this industry in many ways over the years - from aspiring students to the professionals to the animals. Thank you Anna, for everything ❤
